Facing despair

Nov 5, 2021

Yesterday I went on a bus trip with the Parua Bay Garden Club. I came home so exhausted there was no way I was going to write anything. We visited amazing gardens and it was refreshing to be with a group of keen knowledgeable plants people. Then I got home and looked at my clay bank and the gravel pooled with water.

Good for ducks

In one way it was reassuring to talk to other gardeners who have started from scratch and tell me that everything grows fast here. It has been so wet that I’m continuing to plant which I normally wouldn’t do so late in the year. It certainly doesn’t feel like summer.

I saw so many plants I would like to grow here, the list is expanding with every place I visit. It is hard to prioritise.

Incredible bromeliads
Kangaroo paw
Cistus

The list goes on!
